Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ May Offer iPhone X-like 3D Facial Scanning
When Samsung unveiled the Exynos 9810 at the CES trade show in Las Vegas last month, the company had mentioned in no uncertain terms that its latest top-of-the-line SoC comes with 3D scanning capabilities.
Now, the company has released a slide that seems to show the feature in action. Given that Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ meant for India, Pakistan and other countries in this region will be powered by this very chipset, we have a very pertinent question to ask: does this mean that the upcoming handsets will feature 3D facial scanning similar to the iPhone X’s Face ID?
It’s difficult to say at this stage if that will indeed be the case, but it will be a huge missed opportunity if the company doesn’t bring 3D face recognition to its upcoming flagships.

Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ is rumored to be Samsung’s LAST Galaxy S phone
Samsung is getting ready to unveil the Galaxy S9, and the phone might be the last of its name. Samsung is supposedly getting ready to ditch the Galaxy S numbering scheme in 2019, which means there will never be a Galaxy S10 if this new report is accurate.
A source from Korea told GizChina that the Galaxy S10 will actually be called Galaxy X.
If Samsung is indeed doing it, then there’s obviously a good chance it’s because of Apple. The iPhone maker is in the process of changing the naming structure of its iPhone models as we speak. For the first time in iPhone history, Apple released three iPhones this year, and none of the models were named “iPhone 7s.” Apple jumped from iPhone 7 to iPhone 8 and iPhone X, with the latter pronounced “ten,” not X.
Finally, if the Galaxy S name is about to be discontinued, what will happen to the Note series? After all, Samsung did skip a beat last year, jumping from Note 5 to Note 7, in order to keep the S and Note series in sync. It would be odd for Samsung to make that move and then bail on the Galaxy S brand.
Elsewhere in the business, Google already transitioned from the Nexus to the Pixel family a couple of years ago. But it only did that because it shifted its strategy to manufacturing high-end devices rather than affordable Nexus phones. LG might also be rethinking its naming strategy for the G series, with a change expected this year. Instead of being named “G7,” the upcoming LG flagship might have a different naming structure entirely.

Galaxy S9 may feature ‘Intelligent Scan,’ a combination of iris scanning and facial recognition
Well, you should have known by this time that the Galaxy S9’s launch date February 25th. As the date creeps closer, we’re learning more and more about the upcoming flagship. Just two days ago, it was in the air that S9 will be featuring something called ‘Intelligent Scan,’ something that was never said before.
Intelligent Scan isn’t present in any stable Samsung software, nor is it found in any Oreo beta builds. Samsung describes it as a combination of “Iris Scanner and Face Recognition together for better results even in low or very bright light,” and even includes a video guide that has been helpfully uploaded to YouTube for your viewing pleasure.
Given the description and video, it sounds like Intelligent Scan will combine the sometimes-limited information the iris scanner and your front camera can each extract to piece together a fuller picture of whoever is trying to unlock the phone. The iris scanner might take priority in darker situations, but the facial recognition is still superior if your eyes aren’t aimed directly at the iris scanner or if they’re semi-closed. It’s also possible that it might simply be choosing one method over the other given your environment.
The feature will likely debut on the Galaxy S9, though there doesn’t seem to be anything preventing it from being retrofitted to the Galaxy S8 and Note8 since it doesn’t appear to require any additional hardware. Assuming there won’t be any more leaks, there’s less than a month to go before Samsung tells us what Intelligent Scan officially does.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Retail Box Reveals Key Features, Specs, etc Ahead of MWC Unveiling
Samsung confirmed a couple of days back that it will unveil the Galaxy S9 before the end of February at MWC 2018. With almost less than 50 days to go, what is claimed to be the Galaxy S9 retail box leaked on Reddit, possibly revealing Samsung S9 key features ahead of its official unveiling.

The retail box details that the Galaxy S9 will feature a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ SuperAMOLED display, 4GB RAM, and 64GB internal storage. There’s no mention of the processors but we already know that Snapdragon 845 or Exynos 9810 will power the Galaxy S9. It still sports an IP68 rating, audio tuned by AKG, and wireless charging.
The highlight will, however, have to be the 12MP rear camera, most probably Single Camera, with variable f/1.5 and f/2.4 aperture. There is currently no word how it’ll come in handy but rumors suggest that low-light photo improvements should be expected.
The Galaxy S9 camera will also be able to shoot Super Slow-mo videos, it is likely to support up to 1000fps video recording. As per the alleged box, the S9 selfie camera will of 8-megapixels with auto-focus support.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Will Be Unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) next Month
Putting all rumors to rest, Samsung mobile business head DJ Koh has today confirmed that the company isn’t planning an early launch for its Galaxy S9 flagship lineup. He said that the said flagships will be unveiled at MWC Mobile World Congress 2018 next month ie February in Barcelona.
Koh didn’t shed any light on the features or details of the Galaxy S9 devices, which was expected. But, he added to our disappointment by saying that the foldable “Galaxy X” phone that we were expecting to launch this year is a no go. 2019 is now the new launch target for the foldable phone.

Galaxy S9/S9+ Pass Through FCC, Might Be Released Sooner
The hype surrounding Samsung’s next-gen flagships, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, has reached an all time high as the devices have passed through the FCC(The Federal Communications Commission) the American regulator for mobile devices. While the FCC listing doesn’t reveal anything other than the model numbers, it suggests that the devices may be released sooner than expected.
In most cases, testing and FCC approval of upcoming devices is obtained at most a month away from the device’s official launch. While Samsung has previously confirmed that the devices won’t be launched at CES 2018, the recent FCC listing indicates otherwise and the company might launch its next-gen flagships early next year.

Leaked Image of Samsung Galaxy S9’s Rear Panel Shows a Single Rear Camera
Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy S9 duo in 2018’s first quarter, but thanks to a leaked image of the upcoming device’s rear panel, we now have our first look at the design of Samsung’s next flagship.
Leaked by Slashleaks, the image shows a redesigned rear panel with a single cutout to accommodate the camera and the fingerprint sensor below it, which would be more convenient to use compared to the scanner’s awkward position on the Galaxy S8 pair.
Moreover, the cutout’s size on the upcoming device’s rear panel is a clear indication that the Galaxy S9 will feature a single rear camera, while the dual camera set-up will be exclusive to the Galaxy S9 Plus.

Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ Renders Leaked
A series of fresh renders of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy flagship Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ have leaked online offering a detailed look at both the devices. The overall design appears to be similar to last year’s Galaxy S8/S8+ devices, but it looks like the screen-to-body ratio has significantly increased, and in fact, even the fingerprint scanner has been relocated (that has been quite a debate in S8/S8+ and Note-8).
Talking about the front, which is mostly covered by the display, a significant focus seems to be on reducing the top and bottom bezels on the phone. Although the fingerprint scanner is somewhat reachable now.
In-line with the previous rumors, the renders also show that the Galaxy S9 will have a single rear-facing camera, whereas the Galaxy S9+ will get the dual camera setup at the back.
Lastly, the image also shows different colors for the back of both models including Midnight Black, Silver Titanium, Orchid Gray, Ocean Blue and Maple Gold.

Samsung Galaxy S9 ‘Unlikely’ to be Showcased at CES 2018: Samsung
According to a new statement from Samsung’s spokesperson, it appears that Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S9, might not show up at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next year in Las Vegas in January after all. Previously, it was reported that the company would show up at CES with their new Galaxy devices, however, now it looks like the unveiling will most likely be around Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in late February.
In his statement, the company’s spokesperson said it is ‘unlikely’ that the S9 will be at Consumer Electronics Show (CES). This statement implies that the company hasn’t made its mind yet about previewing the new phones, which is rather strange considering the fact that the consumer electronics show is just a couple weeks away.

Samsung Starts Production of 512GB Flash Storage for Mobile Devices | Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+
Samsung recently announced that it has kickstarted the production of the ‘world’s first 512GB embedded Universal Flash Storage (eUFS)’ memory solution for mobile devices.
The Korean giant’s upcoming 512GB eUFS memory is highly space-efficient and boasts of sequential read and write speeds of up to 860 MB/s and 255 MB/s respectively, and is capable of transferring Full HD video equivalent to 5GB in just six seconds.
Tips received from industry insiders suggest that Samsung’s blazing fast 512GB eUFS module will eliminate performance limitations posed by external storage units and will make its way to the upcoming Galaxy S9 pair, which is set to debut in 2018’s first quarter.

Samsung Might Offer a Purple Variant of Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+
According to Sammobile, Samsung is expected to launch a purple variant of the upcoming Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus along with other standard color options. Although the source has not confirmed the official names of the colors, it is expected that the company will offer the Galaxy S9 as well the Galaxy S9 Plus in purple, black, gold and blue.
That said, the front of the smartphone is said to remain all-black and it is also worth noting that the company was expected to launch a purple variant of the Galaxy S8 as well. However, the phone was never released in that hue, and now, it remains to be seen if the S9 & the S9 Plus will get this paint job or not.

Samsung Galaxy S9+ Said To Sport a f/1.4 Lens On The Primary Rear Camera
The Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ is the next big thing for Samsung, and there’s already no shortage of hype. Right after the launch of Samsung Galaxy Note 8, a series of rumors about the next Galaxy flagship, the Galaxy S9/S9+, have been started popping out. Now, a latest rumor suggests that the Galaxy S9+ will support an amazing camera. It looks like the smartphone will pack an f/1.4 lens on the primary rear camera which would be the largest aperture in the smartphone world.
If this particular rumor proves to be true, the Galaxy S9+ should provide some fantastic photos, especially in low-light situations. Just to put things in perspective, the LG V30 and Huawei Mate 10 have a f/1.6 lens, and they both are said to have one of the best smartphone cameras of all time.
Rumors have started to circulate that Samsung’s two latest flagships will make their initial bow at CES 2018 which takes place in early January, and with that new rumors are already popping up as to what we might see from the devices.
