Govt Announces Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme for Schools New Delhi, India — The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the ‘PM’s Laptop Scheme (under Performance Budget) 2015-16’ with an outlay of Rs. 1,700 crore. This marks the first ever laptop distribution programme in the country where every school student from Classes 6 to 12 will be entitled to receive a free laptop. This initiative will benefit more than 10 crore students and over 2 lakh teachers across 40 lakh schools in India and approximately 22 lakh government schools across the country will be covered under this programme.Govt Announces Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme for Schools

Announcing the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, Malcolm Turnbull said all students will receive a free laptop to help with their studies. In order to pay for the laptops, the government will cut funding to some welfare programs including the school chaplaincy program and payments to the states and territories to provide legal services to Indigenous Australians and support those with disabilities. Full details of the scheme are expected to be announced in next month’s budget.
